Job Description
We are seeking a highly qualified Professor of Microbiome-Host Interactions to join our faculty at Goethe University. The successful candidate will have a strong research background in microbiome-host interactions and a proven track record of teaching and mentoring students.
Research Focus
The professorship will focus on the structural and functional analysis of microbial communities in hosts using (meta)transcriptomic, proteomic, and/or metabolomic techniques. The successful candidate will also have experience in the influence of the microbiome and its metabolites on the physiology of the gut and/or central nervous system of the host at the cellular and subcellular level.
Teaching Responsibilities
The professor will contribute to courses in the German-language Bachelor's program in Biosciences and significantly to the Master's programs of the department. The successful candidate will also support the internationalization of teaching and the strengthening of international cooperation.
Requirements
Applicants are expected to have an outstanding teaching record and a strong research background in microbiome-host interactions. The successful candidate will also have experience in teaching and mentoring students, as well as a proven track record of publishing research in top-tier journals.

We are looking for a scientifically outstanding personality who can demonstrate experience in one or more areas: structural and functional analysis of microbial communities in hosts using (meta)transcriptomic, proteomic, and/or metabolomic techniques, influence of the microbiome and its metabolites on the physiology of the gut and/or central nervous system of the host at the cellular and subcellular level, resilience of microbiome-host systems exposed to stressors of global change, such as environmental pollutants and/or zoonotic pathogens.
The professorship will complement the research orientation of the department and the research profile of Goethe University and contribute to the development of an integrative research program through active cooperation with existing groups in the department. The establishment of new and the expansion of existing collaborations with research groups in the Departments of Biosciences, Earth Sciences and Medicine at Goethe University, with the Max Planck Institutes (MPI) for Biophysics and for Brain Research, the Georg-Speyer-Haus (GSH), the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut (PEI), the Senckenberg Institutes (including Senckenberg Frankfurt, Senckenberg BiK-F, LOEWE-TBG) and the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (UFZ) are expressly desired. In addition, active participation in existing, planned and future research projects and the SCALE excellence initiative is expected.
