Professorship, W2 Digital Communication Design Code number: 2.6 Department: Media Production Location: Detmold Start: March 1st, 2026 Your tasks: You will represent the field of «Communication Design» with a focus on digital media and graphic design in research and teaching in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs of the Department of Media Production.

Furthermore, you will impart knowledge in the fields of motion design and/or interaction design.

In addition to the development of communication formats (from design to realization), you will teach design principles and systems with a specific focus on graphics, moving images and/or interaction as well as the history and theory of design.

Interdisciplinary work and professional exchange are expected as an essential part of the teaching approach at the Department of Media Production.

Your activities also include Initiation, coordination, implementation and support of interdisciplinary, interdisciplinary projects and courses Supervision of student projects, theses, presentations and examinations Active further development of your own subject area and the degree program Networking and establishing collaborations within and outside the university In addition, you are keen to further develop your area of expertise through research and are willing to contribute to the acquisition of third-party funding.

Furthermore, you promote innovative and interdisciplinary study and communication formats for multidisciplinary teaching and for the dialog between science and society.

This may include, in particular, interdisciplinary student projects and may involve, if possible, several departments.

25% of your teaching is provided as digital teaching, if required, to enable cross-location events.

You identify with the university's supervision concept, which requires a high presence of the lecturers at the university location and the willingness to take on self-administrative task at the university.

You offer your courses in German.

In addition, you are prepared to conduct courses in English and to actively participate in expanding cooperation relationships with domestic and foreign universities.

Your profile: We are looking for a committed personality in communication design who represents the applied and experimental forms of expression of visual design in theory and practice.

You have outstanding skills in the areas of digital media, print, web design and/or motion design or extended reality.

You are curious and enjoy working in an interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary manner with students, professors and the university's regional, national and international partners.

You have outstanding artistic work and/or a doctorate.
